"O" ringing
Hey Guys
Has anyone done their own o ring install? I have had it done before but want to try it myself this time.I alrady have the block o ringed and the proper wire and copper head gaskets but unsure how to install. How does the wire go in and stay in and does it have to have a end gap like a piston ring? Do I coat both sides of the head gasket and with what? I am building a mild blown early 331 hemi for some nostalgia racing. Thanks for all your help Derrick |

If the ring groove is properly sized, it should be slightly smaller than the diameter of the wire and the wire will need to be pounded into the groove with a plastic hammer. I have always used piano wire ("G" string) for mine.
I always cut the wire ends at a straight angle and butt the ends together (little or no gap) and position the gap away from the centerline of the bores. I spray a liberal coat of Coppercoat gasket sealer on both sides. |
