Another link.... http://www.autoweek.com/news.cms?newsId=102549

Hey I bet I'm like the majority when I say we'll believe it when we SEE it. BUT!!!!! This looks REALLY good. This is EXACTLY like the Muscle car years of before. If there's even a whisper of hope of there being a 2-dr Challenmger return put me down on the happy team.

Bring on the mustang.......

I think it's nothing more than a quick grab for press, and also a distraction. Remember the Tomahawk? The ME 4-12? None of these will ever see the light of day. They were simply meant to distract some people from the dissapointing sales and less than inspiring new offers from Chrysler. The Challenger coming out in 2009! I thought this was the company that could pound out a car in lest than 18 months. Thats what they keep telling everyone. 2009 is wayyyyy to far out and I think the project will die. However it will keep people talking about it for quite some time. thats exactly what DCX wants. Public press. Create some buzz!

Thumbs down My thoughts

Great, let the krauts drag another good name through the mud. Let me guess, at the auto show daimlerburger will show us something cool then in reality they will pump out a million 2 door minivans with a challenger emblem. You gotta love what the germans did to chrysler. We have the daytona pickup truck and a 4 door charger. Why dont they slap on some rainbow stickers on the bumpers along with some gay pride decals. Way to go daimlerburger you make me want to buy a new mustang more and more every day. The Challenger died in 74, let her rest in piece for crying out loud! call it a Messerschmitt or something .

We can only hope that this one might live up to its name. Im sure there will be a concept car before too long, but dont count on the final product to look like that does. They released the Charger concept about 4 or 5 years before it came out, and the two look nothing alike. Not that I cant appreciate the new charger, but they should have stuck with the concept car's look.

Trevor Creed is sure to find a way to: 1) Make it ugly 2) Add Stow 'n Go seating and 3) give it two sliding doors.

If they do it, all I can say is it's about time!!
I'll have kids out of the house, or hopefully semi-independent financially by that time. I wont have the need for passenger space near so bad then.
Also, should have the Charger-Magnum-300-whatever I buy next year paid off by that time!! This is one of the things I've been hoping for, and while it's not a done deal yet, the article sounded pretty sure of the information.
One thing though, IF they do build it, don't forget to thank all us folks who happened to like the new Charger, even if it isn't a "real" Charger...
It'll be the money made from current RWD Mopars that will pay for the engineering and development of ones in the future.
It's been a long wait for Mopar to get it's act together, but that's still better than never......

I agree, let the name stay in the past. They can design and build anything they want, just leave the old monikers alone.

Stoga, you're forgetting about grandchildren.

Yeah....or a hydrogen fuel cell if gas is even around. I would love to have a Hemi, but I'm afraid to buy one just and have it set around when the pumps run dry. I hope this so called oil shortage bites the middle east in the ass one of these days. Maybe its about time to switch to that ole favorite "Mr.Fusion" powered sports car.

I stole these figures from Dick's post in the other thread:
"2006 CHARGER
8 CYL, 5.7 L (345 CID), VAR.
DISPL., MULTIPOINT FUEL INJ.
5-SPEED AUTOMATIC TRANS. W/ LOCKUP TORQUE CONVERTER
CITY MPG 17 HIGHWAY MPG 25 "
Compared to the 9 to 11 mpg my nasty 94 Ford garbage truck gets, that isn't too bad, and some SUV's and 4x4 are even worse.
So in some cases, yes, even a Hemi Mopar is a "greener" and more fuel efficient vehicle to buy. It's highway mileage is even a bit better than the 22 to 23 mpg my 2000 Grand Caravan does.
Whatever new car I may buy in the next year or so, I'm still keeping my 4 banger Breeze. Gas prices are coming down a little bit right now, but you never know when they may go right back up again.

Eh this concept sounds like its a long way off, havent even seen any pics of it yet. It might just be an idea discussed in a DC boardroom for all we know. Wont mean much for me CA is adopting super strick emissions standards for 2009 vehicles that now must reduce C02 emissions too so if they had a hemi Challenger it'd probably be 250-300 hp if that and id imagine nill in terms of aftermarket parts while keeping it emissions compliant. Yeah Dst, 5 bucks a gallon is probably about right by 2009, if not more. After that of course itll just keep climbing till the economy takes a big nosedive and were all out of work with no money to pay for our cars anymore.

The pumps probably arent going to run dry in our lifetimes, and as far as a shortage, there is none. The oil companies are just plain ripping us off. Oil reserves havent been higher than now since the 50s, its just a big scam to get our money and add it to the $21-22 Billion each of the oil companies make for a profit every quarter. Not that anyone who has control over the prices care, they just drive around in their Escalades and Hummers all day sucking down more gas than most of us while they make 6 or 7 figures per year, and can afford their gas at almost any price. Oh, and one of the reasons prices are high is because they are based on what the speculators say. Why is anyone listening to speculation instead of facts? These speculators are going to end up speculating the whole world into recession!
