You'ld be much better off with a set of X,J,U, or O heads with 2.02 valves installed and milled .035. |

On 60's and 70's... Oh yeah we talked 5 pages worth already I know maybe Mopar will reinstate 440 six pack rods and breaker point cast iron distributors, Tach drive distributors, Lean Burn fuel injection. My favorite the 1985 Aries K w/ Mits. 2.6, bitchin!!! I call my contact in Detroit |

please correct me if I am wrong, but don't the 302's have a smaller chamber than the older heads. I am assuming this is the case as I am not boring the block, will be running the original pistons, and would like to get compression up at least a little. Being a cheap ass rebuild, I would like to be able to get away without having to get heads milled.
thanks for the replies, and sorry to bring up the same old discussion |

Just picked up a set of 714 heads. Couldn't find much reference on them except Hughes engine site listed them as Magnum heads, and they were advertised as Magnum.
http://www.hughesengines.com/general..._the_heads.asp Well, not convinced about this now. They definately have the heart shaped chamber, but only 5 holes for the valve covers and the head of the valves measure 1.78"/1.5"... same dia as my old 1968 heads... From everything I had read magnum heads have 1.92"/1.66" valves and 10 holes for valve covers. Anyone know whether it is just certain Magnum heads (maybe the RT?) with 1.92"/1.66" valves and 10 holes, or all of them? Any good sites out there for Magnum head information? Think this set will be going back to where they came from... |

all magnums use have the 10blot 1.92 valve heads even the dalota r/t heads are the exact same (not to be confused as he MP R/T heads)
And 714 heads are 302's with a bigger port from everything i have read. if you were going to do some 302's i would stay with those, if not magnums, leave the j,x heads to the resto crowd, they are deff not the performance head. im not going to even say anything else dcw... Steve |
