Default Externally ballancing a torque converter...

I am going from an internally balanced 318 to an externally balanced 440, and I need to externally balance the converter to make the switch.

I have weighed the option of having the crank nuetrally balanced, but found that between a new harmonic balancer and having the crank assembly balanced that it was not going to be as remotely cost effective as just having the converter externally balanced.

Unfortunately, I have been thus far unable to find were the weight can be purchased, or what the procedure is for doing this. I imagine this is farily common with all of the 318, 340 swaps to a 360.

Can anyone help me out on this?

Default how about using.....

The B&M externally balanced flexplate between the 440 and your 727 converter. Usually run about $75.

SFI certified, too. If you can find a local torque converter shop, I'm sure they could put the weights on for you (and probably have them in stock). In the end, though, I would go the B&M route.

Sounds good, I need a new flex plate anyway. Do these come with the 7/16 bolt holes? I can't seem to find that info on the Summit website. Or do al big block flex plates have 7/16 holes?

The #10237 flexplate comes with both the 5/16" and 7/16" bolt holes.

Is there a converter rebuilder/ trans supply warehouse near you?

If so, he should be able to weld the weight on, for a minimal charge.

The last one I had done, cost me 10 bucks.

Then you can use your current flexplate etc.

I agree with him. That's what I did for my 360 too. I live in Canada too and it is a LOT cheaper and faster to do it that way then it is to get the B&M flexplate.

Question

While I agree with 5th and dave, the advantage to the B&M is that you're free to swap converters in the future without the need to re-balance when you do. Your call.

I started reading this thread, and saw I responded to it already. I think I'm too young to be senile so then I looked at the dates.

How did this thread get dug up again? It's from July?
