Default offset cam keys

hey;

got a set of mopar perfomance off set cam keys in from summit, but which key is which # of *? there's nothing in the silly package, and i'm not good enough to tell the difference between 4* key and the 5* key!

by the way, this seems elementary but which way do i install the key to get advance? offset in direction of rotation? right? offset opposite of crank rotation to retard?

advancing refers to advancing the cam itself, which in turn is the same as retarding the crank. so although i cant help you with the amount of advance your keys will provide, i can tell you that to advance the cam you would offset the crank sprocket key the opposite direction of rotation, or anticlockwise as viewed from front on.

I don't recall seeing anything that said what color is what amount, and I just checked my engines book, too. Nothing there either. I have another idea, though. I'll get back with you.

It's real easy to tell if put them all side by side. Its pretty obvious. And they were in order smaller to largest in the package.

DWC, it all depends on your eyeballs. I can see it, but maybe nocar can't.

If you have a micrometer, you can check them for thickness diagonally. It's not very precise since the keys aren't very cooperative, but if you are consistant when you measure them you should be able to put them in order. I would measure all of mine if I could find them, but two are in engines, and two are MIA. That left me with one for the photo. Hope this helps

Maybe a caliper would be easier to hold onto while taking a measurement.
