Default torker or weiand intake

would a torker 340 intake work better than a weiand actionplus manifold on a 318? the engine is built about like the junkyard jewel that steve dulich did in april 03 hot rod. 302 heads w/188 valves, home ported, milled .050. 268xe comp cam, it is going in a 73 dart sport, 1 5/8 headers, 2 1/2 in exhaust,727 trans, 3000 converter, 8 1/4 rear 410 sure grip. tires are 275-60-15. this is my sons car and he has limited funds so it will one intake or the other.also which carb would you guys recomend? he has a choice of a carter 625 , a holley 750 vacuum or a 700 doublepump.
thank you

Use the Weiand Action plus. It works much better. Better choice would be to use 360 heads with at least 1.88 but 2.02 would be better. Use 2 1/4 pipes with an X pipe to keep your bottom end without loosing anything on the high side. The 625 is too small and the 750 is not very throttle responsive. Best carb to use is the Carter Thermoquad. Get 'em new from Advance auto starting at $189. Stock carb and has more throttle response than any holley. We use the big block versions on our race cars with great results. ANd that carb works best with the Weaind intake.

sofa boy;

Welcome aboard. Forgive the banter above. DW has old scool thoughts combined with a circle track mind. To address your question;

It would be my opinion that the Action + would be better suited to this build. I have a TorkerII that was used on a 318. While the power band of the intake does match the build pretty good, the dual plane intake will provided a better lowend response.
I would not use 2.02's in the build. I did and the 1.88's worked better. If your going to run the car in the upper RPM more offten than not, the TorkerII and 2.02's will suite the need.
On your carb choices, 625 for the street, 750 for the strip, do not use the double pumper. There dificult to launch on a auto. trans car.
The carter carb can use some help in airflow. The cfm differnce will not cost you a big decline in HP.
On my Carters I have found good results in narrowing down the boosters and making use of the K&N stub stcak with there extreme air filter top. It is a bit of work to do and ironout, but the results were very nice.
The smaller venturis of the smaller carb gave a great throttle response, (Air velocity is kept high) and the help added to the carb showed a little on the top end.

Save the Torker II and the 750 for more aggressive/bigger CID builds.
