Default Dumb question about AN fittings

If you're wanting to plumb some compenents using AN fittings, how do you do it when one or more of your components just have flared or barbed pipes for the inlets/outlets? (I'm thinking about a fuel tank pickup in particular). I know that for things like carb inlets, you can unscrew the barbed fitting and replace it with an AN-type fitting, but I'm not sure how you adapt the fitting if it's not removable.

Thanks,
Scott Gardner

Check with a hydraulic hose making business. They should be able to get you some fittings that are made to solder or braze onto steel tubing. Thats what I used when I made my pickup tube 1/2 inch.

I make hydraulic lines all the time and yes the solution lies at your local hydraulic line specialist-We have compression style fittings to adapt from hard line to whatever you want.

HA! Not so dumb IMO. Not asking is.

Heres a question for everyone.

What AN numbers equal what standard size measurements? A listing would be good.

How about a picture thread on how there assembled?

Anyone care to to a small project? It would be good for arcive.

Aspen, one thing always confuses me. Are these dimensions the actual i.d of the tubing involved, or are they pipe thread numbers, or what? Never could keep that stuff straight.

Yep, the easy way to keep the sizes straight is to remember that the "AN" number is basically the size in sixteenths of an inch, so AN-8 is 8/16", or 1/2". AN-12 is 12/16", or 3/4", and so on.
