fuel pickup
ok, i fabbed up a new 3/8 in tank pickup for my duster, and it leaks. reason i had to fab one is due to an autometer fuel gauge that wont work with the stock sender.
reason it leaks is due to small pinholes around the weld where the pickup passes through the mounting flange. question is, what do i do to solve this problem? i really dont want to have to fab a new pickup, but i will if necessary. i was thinking of using something like JB weld as a sealer, building a fillet on both sides. what do you think? anything better to use? what did you use to bond the tube in the first place?

at most autoparts stores they sell a putty like epoxy just for repairing gas tanks. i haven't used it, but my buddy did on his ford p/u and it worked like a champ.
i have used jb weld on gas tanks before with some luck, just be sure to let it cure a loong time to get it to hold gas. if it is even a little not cured (boy that was clumsy grammar) it will seep. good luck. sb |

Holds up real well. I did it to a '68 Plymouth one time. Got a hole punched in teh tank, not rusted. Held for the few years I drove it and for several more for the guy that bought it from me.

Brazing doesnt usually pinhole. Even Solder (a form of brazing) is how I did mine.

i second pishta's recommendation.
i've soldered a busted one before, and it worked/sealed great. |

75 bucks, get a plumber to solder you up. Use acid core solder and flux. You can use that "magic" welding rod they sell at auto shows too. Heat the pipe until the flux turns brown and then apply the rod to the joint, itll flow so keep the heat at a distance. Wish they made that stuff for headers....
