Default dipstick length?

Hmm. Im thinking I got the wrong 727 dipstick for my tube. How far does the stick dip into the pan to indicate Full on the stick? Either measure the tube, then the stick, or if someone has a 727 apart and could tell me how far it sticks into the pan, It would help me alot. Thanks

To my knowledge the only dipsticks/tubes that were odd length were the Max Wedge and Hemi all others are the same length.

The "FULL" level on the dipstick is about 1/4" above the flat shelf on the case where the tube plugs in, the tip of the dipstick should extend about 1/2" beyond the end of the tube.

There are some dimples on the dipstick that retain the stop cap below the handle, if they are gone and the cap is free to move upward and the dipstick reading will be wrong.

Thanks John, let me get this straight. As the convertor sits there at rest, it is slowly draining back fluid into the pan, and that level rises. Makes sense that you never get levels without the car running in N. So running at normal temp and in N, the accurate level is at about the gasket?

My stick showed nothing!

The "flat shelf" I referred to in my last post is about 1 1/8" above the pan rail, so the normal "FULL" level would be about 1 3/8" above the pan gasket.

The very tip of the dipstick is about even with the pan rail when fully inserted into the tube so if there is nothing showing on the dipstick you're down at least a quart and a half.
