Default X Pipe Location

Hi

I would like to fit an X pipe to my Jensen Interceptor/BB440.

Due to the cars design (chassis rails etc) the only possible location in the area around the forward UJ (rear of the 727 transmission's 18" tail shaft).

My question is will an X pipe this far back be beneficial or would an H pipe mounted much further forward at the bottom of the down pipe, be a better bet?

In short, how far back is too far for an X pipe?
.
