318 cranks!
OK, does anyone know the truth?
I cant find a reliable source for info, I torn down a few 318's, cars seem to have cast cranks, and trucks seem to have forged untill 71, then, they seem to have gone cast? (bigger trucks and RV's still show up with forged till 75 or so) anything written on this? |

All Polys have forged cranks, I believe, with the truck ones having hardened journals (which possibly embrittles them!) only.
I don't really know about the LAs. |

According to what little I know, steel cranks ended in 71 or so except the 318-3 truck engine. I may be wrong though.

Several Mopar sources including the old racing manual state that '71 was the last year for the forged crank in the passenger car 318.

If you look in the archives you will find a chart there that shows 318 and 273 cast crank part numbers as early as 67.
Yes, some 273's had cast cranks too. I have seen them first hand. For the most part, the vast majority of 318's have cast cranks. |
