Fitment problems with new engine buildup
I replaced the 383 with a 440 in my 69 Roadrunner. I have the Edelbrock Performer RPM manifold and a Holley 850 mechanical carb.
My airgrabber air cleaner setup no longer fits under the hood. I was told that there's a different airgrabber air cleaner base that evidently sits lower allowing the hood to close.... Anyone have a similar setup and/or can give advice? Terry PS: I know this really isn't a performance issue but it was the performance upgrad that got me here -- and this certainly isn't resto! |

The Air Grabber option was available on the 383 and the 440. As the 440 is taller than the 383, the air cleaner baseplate was shorter.
As you no longer have the correct height intake or carb, it is doubtful tha the 440 baseplate would work. Your only real choice is to either cut your existing baseplate to fit or get a fiberglass unit from The Paddock and then cut it to fit. |

Fiberglass 440 six-pack HINGED hood
Thanks Ed.
I spent this weekend at Mopar Nats. Man, that was hot!!! I saw ZERO 440 airgrabber four-barrel baseplates. But I DID see a guy with 440 six-pack fiberglass HINGED hood. I know it's not what Mother Mopar gave us but I LIKE IT A LOT. The guy didn't remember who made them. Anybody know how to contact these guys? Terry |
