727 clutch pack clearance
the basic question is, in the front clutch, what should the dry, assembled clearance between the snap ring and the pressure plate be? i believe the "ideal" clearance is .060", but i dont think i can get that. i can get somewhere between .040" and .070" pretty easily, though.
thanks in advance.

It isn't so accurate. At least 0.010"-0.012" per friction plate, but can be as big as 0.017" without any problems. Some people like looser clearance, since in 1. and 2. gear the clutch is only freewheeling, so more clearance is believed to give less friction.

Dry???????
I always soak them for a day or two in fluid before starting anything. I would think dry would give false readings as they don't work in a dry enviroment.

The discs do not swell considerably. According ot some parts manufacturers, 15 minutes in oil bath should be enough.
