Default 906 opinions

well i got a set of 906 heads at the swap meet today, they are perfect, untouched, no rust... i got them for soooo cheap i couldn't pass up the opportunity. the ports all look really good, like i could really work them and get good numbers but was wondering what people who had experience with them thought...

TIA

OK, Using the MOPAR template, you should be able to wake them up. A professional port job will blow away what you can do. By the time that you are done with a professional port job, hardened seats, new valves and guides, etc, you could have bought a pair of EB heads that will out perform them for about the same price.

Unless you have to have iron heads (like my circle burner) or are not going for max output the Edies are a "more bang for the buck" way to go. The 906's can be made to flow in the 280 -290 cfm range which is about the same as the Edies out of the box. The later castings (346,902,452, etc.) will flow better at high lifts and the 906 & 915 units are better in the mid lift range. All the aforementioned iron heads except for the 915's are open chamber units and the Edies are (I think) closed chamber. I have also read that the Edie choices are increasing with the addition of a couple more options.

hello, the 906 head will perform very well on a 383- 440 motor. a bowl blending , mopar sst valves, will make them flow quite well. they will flow about 250 cfm @ 25" pressure. more than enough to make plenty of power.
this is with 2.08 intakes and 1.74 exhaust valves. as for power, have a set on a 440 duster, runs 10.40,s 126 mph, at 3200 # . the B/SA record is 10.14@129+ mph with 906 heads in a 3700 # gtx. eddy heads cost bout $1400, reworking 906,s will be a lot less. just food for thought.

Do you have a machine shop, i have some 906s that i would like to wake up alittle, all i did was clean up the bowl area myself, my 3100 lb duster is running 11.0s at 122 in the heat, would like to get another .2 tenths if i can out of them, was thinking of milling them to 11.5.1, i'm at 10.25 now, is there a way to contact you.
