Default 440 Value Question

Question on the value of an original 1970 440 HP2 Engine (complete) in running condition, but could use a valve job (or at least new stem seals.)

I am thinking of building a 1969 non-HP 440 engine into a 512 cid stroker for my '69 Coronet Convertible. The car currently has the non-numbers matching 1970 engine mentioned above in it. I am just curious how much I could get for it to offset the cost of the stroker engine. I noticed that 440source.com is selling non HP short blocks for $1295 (no heads, intake, carb, air cleaner assembly, exhausts, oilpan, etc..)
I believe the 440 HP engine vin numbers are originally from a 1970 Plymouth GTX?

For $1,295, the cylinders have been bored and honed, new pistons, rings, bearings, etc.

Your engine is only worth what someone is willing to pay. If it is just a stock engine, I wouldn't give more than $500 for it (ready to run, maybe minus the carb and intake).

Local market plays a lot on this.

I'd give you 500 for it all day long.
For that matter I sold a 69 hp 440 motor, as a core(not running) for $1000 3 years ago. It still had hp manifolds on it etc.

I paid 700 for my 67 440 hp block, with a spun brg and a bagged set of 516 heads on it. No manifolds.

So, are your numbers USD or CD??

I still know of several bone yards where I can pull a 440 and pay less than $500.

Numbers are cdn. Dollar is around 15% difference these days.

With the the 69 core I sold, rhe guy paid 200 in shipping to get it to his place on top of the grand, and was extremely happy to have got it. He did not bicker on the price.

The last steel 440 crank (just the crank) I sold, I got 400 bucks(cdn) for

Ed, you can pull steel crank 70 hp 440 motors for 500 usd?

If that's so, buy all you can and put them away, while you still can.

Well, since I may get laid-off from work, I think I will hold off on the stroker engine. I think I might just check the bearings, and cylinders and if they look OK, I think I will just do a valve job on the heads and put in a used (mild) Crower cam that I have from my 383.
