Default Fastets 318 Engine With 318 Iron Heads

Hi there, i am looking for Drag Racing 318 engines all over the net but almost none blown engines was found. If someone known any one please let me know.

why that? I have a Nostalgia like Dragster running over here in Brasil and we got 8.9s in our first pass (slow, very slow pass) and we think we can get 8.1 to 8.2. And it could be the fastest 318 engine ever made (with iron heads).

My car: FED 318Cid with 318 iron heads, roller cam, forged, all arp, milodon main caps, BDS 6-71 blower, Enderle stuff, MW rear end, and Manual 3spd Transmission dodge Dart, stock one, goodyear slicks.

Thanks

I can't answer why people do or do not use a blower. I'd say main reason would be "Look at what I built and how fast it goes on it's own without N02 or a blower" Kind of a pride thing on getting your engine to move your car fast own it's own power. Shows you know how things are done without the aid of laffing gas or pressure.

Surely the reason there are not many blown examples of the 318 around is because if outright power is sought then big blocks are the way to go?

318s, therefore, come in for other treatment...

I don't see anymore pride with a blown motor to a n/a engine, unless of course the n/a is faster. A blown engine has to built for a blower, so getting that combo right is just as hard to get a n/a combo right.

and i haven't seen any fast 318's.

Yeah, twenty two cubic inches makes such a difference!

I saw, somwhere here, a link posted to a Iron headed 318 running in the 9's. It can be done, hell, they even made fast 273's!

However, I am ordering a 4" crank for mine!

I know it can be done, but I haven't seen any. Its just easier to put a 4in crank and make awhole bunch more power.70ci is a big differnce.

You may not see any pride in it but others might. My answer was a stab in the dark kind of answer. I do know people that think a blowm motor or nitrus feed engine is cheating. Thats how they veiw it.
Also, a blown engine can be just a bolt on. If thats all they did to there engine, and maybe headers to boot, it's not really going to be a fast car now is it? A well built street strip engine could beat a blown engine if the above example is all thats done. Should the N/A builder be more full of pride? I don't know about anybody else, but I myself would take pride in what ever I built just simply for what it is without compare. Blown or not.
Getting any combo tuned right is a measure that takes some time. Is it harder for a blown engine? I have not been there myself. Hope to one day.

Also, the type of fast you seem to be talking about is more of a race thing and not a street strip thing or general performance aspect.

Welcome to the performance section. Race section down below.
And by all means, keep in touch with your progress on the time slips. 318 lovers will drool to see the builds and tech on how you did it.

Could you please answer some of my questions?

Default Fast 318??

Rumble, FED stands for Front Engine Dragster, commonly called a Slingshot Dragster. MW is Mark Williams.

A fast 318 is a relative statement. I consider my 318 fairly fast. A cubic inches to weight comparison could make some of the fast cars seem slow. My 64 Dart ran an 11.51 in the 1/4 with 0.1003 cubic inches per pound. At the same track, there are many cars that run 0.300 cubic inches per pound. They have three times the cubic inches per pound of car weight than I have, so they should take 1/3 less time to get to the finish line!!!!!

Thanks Billy. Still waiting on 73scamp318. (???)
And your right, fast is an opinion. 11.00 may be toooooo fast for some while dead a$$ slow for others. What ever suites.
