After reading the ad on ebay...dont think it is a true HEI...requires external coil....
Anyway...there is another place called DUI ...the are in Mopar Magazines with HEI distributor for sale... Look around you will find them |

You don't want to use DUI for an ignition system. There parts fail quite often. Not sure why yuo would want to use a gm dist that's only good to 4000 rpm anyway unless you spend a lot of moneyh to mod them. The mopar dist is ten times better and with a chrome box or msd it can't be beat.

4000, thats it, I dont believe you. My race car turns way more than that for twenty laps and I dont see a problem. If you hate them thats fine, but dont come here telling someone something you beleive is true.
They work fine, I have one, and so do a couple friends of mine, they have worked excellent. I made mine, they bought theirs. I made mine shorter to clear the air cleaner, dont know anything about proform's. But I dont see why they wouldnt work. In all of my years of racing, I have yet to see a guy say, My HEI took a crap, and I lost. I can recall as many toes and fingers I have a Mopar Ignition failing, both on the track and on the way there or home in the tow vehicle. That to me is a bad ignition. |

Stock HEI's are good to 4500. After that, a good coil will take you the rest of the way. It's the stock coil thats sub par.

I had several Chebbies when I was young and HEI was the way to go since it's readily available and cheap but they're nothing special in my opinion except they're cheap and fairly reliable. I even tried the coil and module upgrades and never had one that was good over 4500 rpm. The coil upgrade didn't help a bit. The module helped a little.

I agree with you racintracy. ALso they like to burn holes through the rotor buttons and if you increase the coils output that just makes it easier to burn through a rotor.

Yep your right Dave. They do have alot of spark energy so that's why they do this. This is generally not from keeping the vehicle in good tune and when it miss fires the spark has nowhere to go but through the rotor to the advance mechanism but I have seen a few just do it even when it is in good tune. All in all they're still a pretty reliable piece. But the dwell time is pretty much nil by 4500 rpm so that's why they will miss fire past that.

HEI's ............
are big on burning holes in the rotor button and leaving you dead in the water. Be sure if you use this type of system you ALWAYS keep a spare handy.
