Storing an engine
I just put together a 340 and I'm wondering how to store it.
1 Break in the cam and let it sit till spring 2 Not break in the cam and let it sit with the intake unbolted so I can add more break in lube to the cam lobes come spring 3 Just bolt it all together and let it sit all winter with fogging oil in the cylinders. then break in the cam in the spring Thanks |

Option 4:
Loan it to a fellow Moparchat member and let them store it in a warm engine bay?.... |

I would not recommend the third option, as cam lube is very sticky but the closer the time interval you apply the lube and break in the cam should'nt be all winter long. Just make sure the engine is complety covered (bagged entirely if on stand) and some decicite packages will not allow moisture to develop in the bag.

I'd go for option two but leave the break in lube off the exposed cam lobes till it's time to finish the job. Also leave the rocker shafts unbolted so there is no stress on the valve springs. Lube the cylinders and install plugs to keep dirt out and put it in an engine bag.

Take the cam out and do this.
Spread plastic wrap on the kitchen table. 2 leangths wide about 4 feet long. This should be wide enuff to cover the cams width. Grab a can of WD-40 or equal. Lay the cam on the table ontop of the plastic wrap. Spray cam with WD-40 alot and roll up the cam inside the wrap. Fold over the ends and wrap again in a new sheet of plastic. Keep in closet. In your house. Same idea with the engine. Wrap and double wrap the engine. Spray it down. Alot. Those decicite packages like B-1 said are a fantastic idea. DW siad no presure on the valve springs. Excellent idea. |

I would get it running to make sure everything is good, that way you have all winter to remedy the problem
