Default Harmonic Balancer for 360 stroker.

Im looking for a balancer for the 360 (408) stroker. My intended use will be mostly street, with some weekend 1/4 mile runs. Iv looked at Jegs, but do I really need a $300 balancer?? thanks.

After building and bal my 408, it was internal. I bought a balancer that has detachable weights on it so, like my flywheel, it can be used for both internal and external balenced engines. Around 55.00$

Good question. I'm still not sure yet but it I'm leaning towards these:
Edelbrock Performer RPM duel plane intake. (from engine before build)
Holley double pumper 750 (maybe save up for six-pack?)
CompCams CRS XE274H-10 #20-224-4

I have my heads and short block but still need to figure out the valve train. What cam / intake setup are you running?

Not a clue... I just got a list together of parts I need. Right now all I got is a 360 block and a set of "J" heads w/2.020 intake valves, But Iam going to rob my Unilite off the 318. The intake I was thinking about trying the Edl. "Air Gap" and maybe a Demon carb.??? and dont know where to start on the cam....

He is some info that you may find useful:

And
http://www.moparchat.com/forums/showthread.php?t=93710

The AirGap is probibly the best street intake for that engine. If I had to have a 4bbl and had to buy a new intake, I'd get the AirGap. I'm leaning away from Demon do to their bad customer service reputation.

I really would buy a good balancer for a cast stroker. Its worth it it you want it to live. I can understand if you dont buy one for a stock stroke engine, but I personally wouldnt go without one on a cast stroker. And I'm a cheapskate. I dont buy ANYTHING that I dont think is necessary. I found that BHJ's are very well made and sfi approved, and streetable too. Alot of aftermarket balancers arent street compatable with sfi ratings. I also had to use the Sunnen honing machine at work on mine because my crank snout was about a thousanth bigger than what the stock one was. Just measure with any aftermarket parts to see that you end up with .001 to .002 press fit. Even if you use a stock damper, some of the cranks arent exact.

I've got a Rattler on mine. And it isn't nearly as loud as you'd be lead to believe. Be sure to send a piston and rod (complete w/bearings and rings) and your flexplate along with the crank and balancer when you get it balance. Anything that spins.

I externally balanced mine. I wont put mallory ($$$$) into a casting. Why would anybody? If its a Callies Dragonslayer, YES. And what SixGunner says about getting everything balanced together-I second that. I wouldnt go near a Fluiddamper though, alot of crankshaft people hate em. My buddy redid an R block motor with the front knub of the crank broke off with a fluiddamper ... ouch. Rattler might be a good choice but I dunno if its streetable. Bhj's seem to offer the most in the way a crankshaft needs dampened; radially, torsionally, ect.

The only reason I would go with the Mallory (Dist) is becuz I got it in my 318, and I like the simplisity (SP) of the Mallory Dist. But Iam open to all info on that... If there is somthing beter, I'll need to work more O.T., Im just looking for all the info. on 408 strkers that I can find befor I build mine,

Freddie, I was talking about mallory metal used to balance a crankshaft internally. Sorry for the confusion.
