Default Help, wont start

I just bought the car today, been driving around all day without any problems, I come out of the store and the car wont start. I have lights, but it wont even turn over, nothing when I turn the key, tried to jump it but still nothing. Any ideas.

Its a 73 charger with a 400.

Thanks

Have you tried starting it with the shifter in "N"?

rustyst; I just had the same problem with my Challenger, try tapping the starter relay with a screwdriver handle, if that dont work try tapping the starter with a hammer while someone turns the key, be sure your battery connections are clean. I had to take my starter relay apart & clean the contacts, works fine now.

I`m sure when he said batt. connections he also ment the other ends of the cables too. Also check the exciter wire on the starter relay. See if it lights up with a test light while someone turns the key. Could be the ignition switch.
But it should turn over if you jump across the relay.

I'm having the same problem on my Magnum. To start the car in a jam, turn key on, run a driver across the 2 starter posts with the right hand and use left hand to work carb lever.
I tapped my starter relay once and worked once. I'm still missing something. Back to square one.

Theres also the ballast resister. When they go, it's perfect running one min. dead as a door nail the next.

I'm not sure what gearbox you have or whether this would apply, but if you can't hear the starter solenoid clicking when you turn the key, then it could be the inhibitor switch in the gearbox sticking. This happened to me last month. With Park selected, turn and hold the key in the start position and try moving the gear selector back and forward a little (not so far as to move out of P). This may unstick the inhibitor switch. Good luck.

Turn the key to 'Run'. Under the hood, short the two big contacts of the starter relay, with a screwdriver. If she still does not try to crank, then odds are you have a bad starter.
