Default Width rims

I am going to convert my 71 Swinger to disk brake setup probably after the new year. I will also be changing the rear axles to bigger bolt pattern. What is the widest rims I can use? I still want to stick with either 14" or 15" rims. Would I have any problems using a 14 or 15 x 8?

You should be able to sneak an 8" wheel under a Dart, but it's going to be tight. Probably have to "clearance" the outer wheel well a bit, but no one sees that area, and it's easy to do. You probably can't fit much more than 4.5" of backspace with a wide tire, though.

Laugh Wheel's are one thing......

But the tire is different. I once put a 235/60/14 on my wifes 71 Dart and everytime we went around a sharp curve or ove a curb they would rub the inner fender well. She made me take them off so I put them on my 71 Charger I had at the time. I was using stock wheels at the time but with any offset they would have rubbed the outer fenders as I had already rolled the lip to get them on. ( Didn't tell her about that.)

I had 235/60-14's on SBP Rallye wheels on my 74 Swinger forever, and they worked great. The wheel was too narrow for the tire, but it fit, and looked good. That's a good point about the tire moving around, though. The 245/45-17's on my Valiant don't really move at all side to side, but the axle rolls some as you go over bumps. It CAN rub on the inner wheel well under the right conditions, but not very often. That's another argument to get away from big, squishy sidewalls, but that kind of boils down to taste.

Go with 15's. Tires are much easier to find and are cheaper too for some reason. I had a nice set of 14X10 SBP Rallyes and couldnt justify the price of the tires that would fit 'em. They were big bucks and would not fit my car anyway. the point was the 14X10 tires were like 175 a piece, 15x10 tires were 90 (as an example)
