Default Small block starter question

4 or 5 years ago i bought a starter for my 78 dodge magnum w/360 engine. I never used it and got rid of the magnum. I'm having loss of spark problems with my '73 340 'cuda on keyed start (low volts at ballast resistor sometimes mostly when engine is hot, has headers). I know the part numbers are different and the 360 starter is higher torque. Is it safe to put the 360 starter on the 340 or just get a 340 starter?

OK thanks thats what i thought i just wanted to make sure it wasn't going to suck more amps or something because of the higher torque.

No there not though you could not tell the difference.
The 360 starter you ordered for your Magnum is a hi-temp starter for the closeness of the exhaust pipe.
I learned this because I was eating starters in my '73 Cuda, with headers of course, near weekly.
When the parts guy asked some questions, I told him I had headers.
he said you need a hi-temp 360 starter. Well, theres no price diff and there was a tag on it that said hi-temp. OK I said. WTF and why not. I'll try it.

That was the last starter I purchased for the car some 10 years ago and it still works.

Check out the modern Denso (mini, V6, race...)starters, 1/2 the amps but 60% more torque. and they are smaller. Make a heat shield or wrap the header by the starter.
