U joints 7260 vs 7290
Hi All;
I was wondering if anyone knows the actual torque limit for these u joints. I've been looking on line and can't find any info. Have a new toy and will need to get a new driveshaft and wondered if needed the 7290 or will the 7260 handle 525 Hp from a W2 headed 360 in an A body at ~ 3300/3400 lbs . I know it may not be enough info but was wondering? Thanks!!! Denny |

Been using the 7260/7290 u joint in my race car since.....1992 went i changed from a 727 to a 904. Car had a 360 W 2 engine..was leaving on tranny brake also..
Today..same u joint ...360 engine ported j heads...running 10.70s with a 904 and tranny brake...car run mid 1.40s 60' time... I think it would do fine.. |

U-joint quality/brand and proper driveline geometry have a lot to do with it. But I use the 7260 solid Spicer u-joints. Unfortunately, I don't have the number handy. There are a few other solid brands, but I believe Spicer are the best quality. I'd suggest a billet rear end yoke also for optimum durability.

Thanks guys
ReHi All
Thanks was looking for the info. I'll get the 7290 solid type and get them x-rayed and zyglowed by the machine shop at work. Have never broken a u-joint and don't want to start... Denny |
