Default SB main bearings

Hi guys , What kind of main bearings do you recommend for a street driven 340 cid Challenger ,auto trans. 420 hp . occasional fast acceleration under 6000 RPM.? Both Clevite and Federal Mogul offer many choices and I,m not sure about which one is the right one for my application. Thanks for your help.

tri metal. Grooves are good, not full, half. I used them for a many many rebuilds without ever a problem.

Clevite 77's will more than do the job. If using HV oil pump invest in the oil pan, at 6000 rpm in first you got about a quart left, same in second and she's blowing air bubbles through the bearings , in which case buy the cheapest you can find cause it wont help. Enjoy!

I second that 1320peak. With the stock pan my oil pressure would drop from 70psi to 20psi in 1'st, 2nd, and 3rd. Milodon pan and pickup fixed everything.

hello, use the full groove mains, from clevite. also a standard oil pump will provide plenty of oil to motor with out draining pan completly dry. a stock pan has no baffles, install baffles or get a milidon. have used full groove mains and stock/baffled pan in a stock eliminator 340. have no oiling problems. just food for thought.

Also run full groove bearing with no issues. You do not want to use a half groove bearing without having a cross drilled crank. Why because the rods get thier oil from the mains when the crank hole goes through the no oil groove zone the rods don't get oil. Plus the half groove bearing are V bearings harder and not as much enbedability. A peice of trash will scratch your crank. If you have a high dollar crank that is cross drilled go right ahead. I do but still use full groove bearings and make a ton of HP and have two stages of NOS to add. Run 8.0's at 170 in 3000# 10" tire car with a full exhaust system.

leon441 . SHHHHHHHHHHH Dont let Rumblefish 360 hear ya. He believes
Mopars with todays technology still run 70's time slips. Same oiling theory except a 528 /300 shot 7.54@ 188 . Some safety issues... little fast for certification.
