content Leaf spring help?!

All right here it goes i hope im posting this in the right place i apologize if im not...working on a 74 dart sport the suspension is sagged pretty bad, i've located the right size torsion bars and now looking to get new leaf springs. I've priced an O.E pair for around 310 bones but mopar performance sells a pair for 100 a peice they'e advertised as super stock springs and the weight specified is 2800lbs and im not sure if this means gross vehicle weight or what. Its an original slant 6 car but i've put in a 318 in, the cars for everyday or atleast weekend use and im wondering if the cheaper set of springs would work? any help is definently appreciated

Biggrin

Your car weighs about 3200 but those springs will work just fine for you. They are designed for drag racing though and they have more RR bias on the springs. Sounds like you need something more like a stock spring for cruisin around. If so, get a set from Landrum to fit your car for the same weight. Next install a set of big front and rear sway bars and make it handle like it should.

...or use the inexpensive SS springs and lowering blocks. Get the stiffer SS springs for your car weight, or add a leaf or two from the stockers in to the SS spring pack, and you get a well working rear suspension. I know dwc43 doesnät like lowering blocks, but according to my experience they work. We have 2" lowering blocks with 002&003 "hemi" SS springs in our 3100 lbs car, and it has run 1.39 60 ft times on street tires, so they don't work that bad

They also sell a H/D set for A bodies that put the back of the car up an 1" from stock Look at bottom of page in link $175.00 for the pair...

Click here for better springs. The MoPar units have been having issues lately.

Mancinni also has a set of Xhd A-body springs that will raise the rear abour 1 in. for $174.00 plus shipping.

I just installed a set on my Scamp in hopes of getting a better 60ft time at the drags.

You will have to spend some time adjusting the torsion bars to level the car out, because the right rear comes out about 1inch higher than the left rear.

PS buy new U-bolts

In our country, we had such bad roads, that all the cars imported here came with HD suspensions. For example all the A-bodies here have "340" springs, even with a 170 /6. With those, 25 year old leafs & the front portions clamped, my '73 run just the same 60 ft's as with 002 & 003 SS springs. That is, low 11's with old M&H DOT's and 1.60 60 ft in a mainly street car, driver.

NO. A slight bit firmer at best. The but dyno may not pick it up.
