 Hole in my intake port - Advice needed

Well I just finished gasket matching the ports on my Indy/Eddie heads and after everything was clean and assembled I found a 1/16" hole in one intake port caused by the valve cover bolt hole breaking through. This port had some core shift so I didn't need to remove any material in that area. So I'm thinking I could put a dab of JB weld on it and put some silicone on the valve cover bolt when I install it. Will this work ok?

Give it a shot, it will probably work. BTW, what are Eddie heads?

Stud that hole with some RTV on the stud before screwing in, should be fine.

Eddie is short for Edelbrock. Indy cylinder buys unmachined heads from Edelbrock and machines them like the 340 T/A heads with offset pushrods. This allows them to machine away the buldge in the intake ports.

About the JB weld. Will this stuff hold up for a long time being exposed to heat and fuel? I've never used it before.

I have used JB Weld on aluminum intake manifolds before with great success. I agree with the previous post about RTV and a stud as a good fix for the problem also.

I remove that part of the hump when doing a max port job. I use thicker gaskets on the VC, so the bolt doesn't intrude. Yes, silicone the threads, and you are A-OK. :-) PCRMike

I've ported into more than one V/C bolt hole. I stud them with blue loctite, and keep on porting.

That sounds better than RTV...

WayneT,

Thanks for the explaining what an "Eddie" head is. I've never heard an Edelbrock component being called that before. For a minute I thought maybe someone new was making heads.

Heh,
ALL my intake ports on my brodix heads have holes in them from the chevy/viper rocker threads from the factory.I Just plugged them with a bolt that is smoothed to the contour of the port with a little Indian Head shellac on the threads and bing, in business!
