Well, what did they expect? its a 2 seater, handles like a truck, but has none of the capabilities of one and a huge price tag. The only thing going for it are its looks, which I find to be stomach turning, but alot of people like it. But comparing it to a Prowler really isnt fair, the Prowler was never meant for long term production.

That's a good question. I thought it was kind of cute, even if a bit portly.
But when I heard the price, starting at $39,00 or so with optioned out versions pricing in the mid 40 thousands, I just rolled my eyes.
One of the main reasons the PT worked was it was affordable as well as practical, 40K$ plus for a 4700 lb 2 seater just doesnt make any sense.
Then again it is a blowtie, so I'm not surprised it sucked, lol!!

I thought they were kind of neat, but $40K+ ??? Actually, I have never seen one on a dealers lot for less than 50K. They are so heavy that on some road tests I have read they criticized them for being underpowered. This with the vaunted Corvette engine under the hood! If they were reasonably priced they would have sold them by the hundreds of thousands. GM again failed to hit the mark. The HHR (an ugly copy of the PT Cruiser) also seems to be moving slowly off dealer lots while the P/T is still selling at a good clip.

Those HHR's are cheap. They go for 15K, thats why you see so many of them. I personally dont like them. A blatant rip off of the PT. Why oh why can't they come up with something of their own.

Chevy (and GM) are far from the copy cat styling rip off artists the Jap company's are, a few examples: Dodge Caravan -Toyota Siena (1st generation, their next a copy of the Honda mini-van) Jeep grand Chrokee-Toyota Highlander. Audi TT-Nissan 350Z the list goes on & on. It seems that if the Jap co's ever have an original design it usually is Butt-Ugly.

I'm also not supprised to see the SSR get canned, seems it lived or died by its style because you could certainly spend less for a better performing vehicle.

I wonder why the HHR isn't offered with a V-6 or turbo 4 as an option considering all the media complaining about the sluggish performance of the PT Cruiser.

They didn't design it for a V6. They wanted to get their CAFE #'s down (corporate average fuel economy) Same reason Chrysler designed the P/T for 4 cyl. only. Note: the Turbo P/T's perform pretty damn good & any road tests of these I read were pretty favorable.

I did some checking, the HHR does come w/ a larger engine (172 HP) the standard engine is 143 HP. The road test I read said it is still a "sluggish" performer even with the bigger engine. The P/T has 150 H.P. as it's standard engine & is available w/ 230 H.P. also has a 180 HP engine available in the convertable.

GM grabs their HP ratings out of the air(or out of their a$$). The 275HP Trail Blazer runs 1/8th's and 1/4's like it 160HP because it makes the last 115 in the last 800RPM. Worthless for towing, too. I kinda know a guy with a '69 SuperBird. For a grand he'll show a new 'Vette what a Max Wedge will do in the 1/4. He gets a few takers on "run what you brung" nights.

I think the SSR was supposed to be like the Prowler, just a limited run eye catcher to draw people into the showroom then send them out with a Tahoe, Impala, or Cavelier. I hear the HHR is doing pretty well to even though I don't see too many around here yet (it's was the same with the Magnum too), even though it's a but ugly PT Cruiser rip off.

The reason they look like a PT rip off is because the same man designed them. He left DC and went to work for GM. Still, he didn't do as good a job for GM.

You can be a master chef, but you can't cook gourmet if the potatoes are old and the meat is rancid.
How's that for a forced analogy?
