Remote Starter Hookup???
I picked up a Actron remote starter and tried hooking up but couldn't figure it out for the life of me. Anyone know how to hook one up? I followed the instruction but it didn't work. Obvisouly I am not doing it right.
I was setting up with a conventional iginition system / electronic system with separate coil. It states to Disconnect the primary wire from the BAT (battery) terminal of the iginition coil. Remove the high tension lead from the center of the distributor and ground it. I tired this but didn't work. http://www.actron.com/product_detail.php?pid=16169 |

Is the engine not turning over, or is it cranking but not starting? The steps you mentioned about the coil wires will prevent the car from starting, but says nothing about how you're hooking up the switch. When I use mine, I hook one lead to the positive battery post and the other to the ignition terminal of the starter relay. If I want to fire it up, that's all there is too it. If I want to crank without starting, I'll ground the coil wire.

Exactly!!!
It doesn't show how to hook the switch up. Thanks I'll try it the way you hook yours up. |

I really should add something here - the starter relay is NOT the starter solenoid connected to the starter. The starter relay will be a small rectangular metal box with 4 leads. One comes from the battery. You can use this for one connection instead of the pos. battery post if it's easier. Another lead goes to the starter. The remaining 2 leads are a ground, and the wire from the ignition switch. Connect the other wire to the ignition lead and push the button. Oh, and I almost forgot, the ground wire doesn't go directly to ground, it grounds throught the neutral safety switch.

BlackAce, the Fig. 2 illustration is the one to follow, unless your starter relay looks like Fig. 3. Ignore everything else. One wire to the BAT +, the other to the relay terminal as shown, crank away!

Dang Pista..........
Me to. It's easier than getting the switch out and trying to figure out how to get under the wire that goes to the starter.
Sorry about mis-spelling your name. I was in a hurry. Need to slow down. |

A screwdriver or a quarter if I don't have a screwdriver handy.

A quarter, Ed? What kind of 2-bit advice is that?

What else are you going to do with?? You sure can't get a shave and a haircut, for that kind of money, any more.
