This will be a strictly race motor (440) Any free HP. here?
Will it smoke? I will not be using a vacum pump.Just the old school evac hoses.

It wont smoke, but you will have to rebuild and replace the rings more than once during a season. Well, I guess that depends on how many times your run it really. That's one reason we don't use them on our circle track engines. We build two engines and just swap the two engines mid season so you have only half a season on each engine then rebuild over the winter. IF we ran low tension rings we would have to rebuild more often.

hello, which brand and type of low tension rings you looking at?
when using low tension rings, bore finish and having the bores done with a
deck plate are critical. assembly and breakin procedure is very critical for long life. the low tension rings will last a long time. most race motors will run two seasons on these rings. as for free horse power, yes. very much so.
anything you can do to lower rotating friction =horsepower. the newer cars use low tension metric rings. they will last better than older style stiffer rings. motor produces more power, better milage, lasts a lot longer.
just food for thought. I would use them!! in fact, any race motor, drag and circle track, I use low tension rings, period

use them ,when you order your custom rings from someone like total seal they will give instructions on what would be appropriate and what the finish should be

hello, one important item, when the block is finish honed, be sure it is plateau finish on the walls. low tension rings will not wear the peaks off. the peaks will be removed when it is plateau finished. therefore, the rings will seal tight and seal quick.also, use ATF on walls, piston skirts, no oil on rings. do not use motor oil!!!!! just food for thought.

hello, a plateau is a flat place. when a block is honed, it leaves peaks and valleys. to remove the peaks, you use a finer stone or a ball hone. either one will remove the peaks. now you have a flat surface for the ring to ride on. the rings ride on a film of oil. plateau finish is the way to go with moly rings period. just food for thought.
