Default Replacing a water pump in a 440

Hi all just posting a massege for a mate.

Has a 440 in a VG coupe (aussie car) this has a cast iron water pump housing and its loosing coolant he just orderd a new aluminium water pump,

Just after any tips or advice on replacing this pump. The part number is MOPP5007643AB orderd from Manchini racing (took a week to get it !! dam good as it takes longer to get stuff from local places in australia)

Never changed a pump before gona try to this weekend. Engine keeps overheating and I suspect the water pump is on its way out. (water temp guage hits over 200 after 10mins running)

Thanks..

He replaced the tstat already, right?

They are not difficult to replace. the radiator may not need to be removed if you don't have to use the rubber hammer to break the pump loose too much.

Very easy.

just pull the fan, ethen the 4 bolts.

A water pump won't usually cause and overheat, unless the impeller has come off(or is slipping), or it is leaking badly. It is a very primative pump. If it's turning, it's pumping.

As suggested, check the tstat etc.. .

We replaced the thermostat (didnt have one ffitted). Its in properly and the right one just made no differance at all. Flushed / checked radiator / flused the coolant and replaced that.

Timing is right. He is using to 8inch thermo fans and they are blowing the right way.

Gets hot just after about idleing for 10mins he says. Oil is fine and has been changed.

Cant realy think of anything else. Except something maybe wrong with the radiator? its just a 2core.

Check the radiator core the tubes can block as they get older. you can tell by using a infrared thermo or just checking for cool spots on radiator.

2 8 inch fans is only 400 in2 of fan area, a 15 incher is almost 700, plus that 2 core...I would run 1 18 inch puller in a shroud that covers 100% of the radiator. Can you get Ford Taurus/Mercury Sable's down there in boneyards, they have a sweet 2 fan shroud thats all in one and pulls lots of air, needs a relay as it almost pulls 70 amps on startup!
