header bolts torque?
I recently had a bolt vibrate completely out of the head. I'm going to the hardware store to buy another bolt. what should these bolts be torqued to? This is my first experience with headers on my own vehicle. Do they require being torqued on a regular basis, (I had a friend who did)?
Anyway but the stage 8 header bolts? or know someone who has? They are gauranteed to never unitentionally come loose. Magnum heads w/ hooker headers |

You need to get header bolts from a perofrmacne store. I've seen chevy's that require constant retorquing to keep them tight. We check ours on our race cars regularly, but I have never found them even slightly loose. I just hand tighten them starting with the middle tubes and working my way to the outer tubes. No way to get a torque wrench in there anyway.

The need for retorquing depends of the gasket used, and the style & thickness of the falnges. Cheapo headers with welded O-rings for sealing around the ports, are more prone to this. I use 5/16" thickness flat flanges minimum, and they seal well I retighten after the first warm up/cool down cycle, and that's it. The stage 8 bolts will prevent the bolts from turnign out, but they do not prevent the gasket from compressing or the flanges from twisting.
