Broken Dipstick Tube.
So, it is almost go time. The body shop has left my truck out in the rain, with no hood, for a month, and I have Water in my oil. They also finnished the dipstick tube off when they changed the alternator.
So, I have the dipstick tube, broke off at block level. It sure is east to fix this when the engine is sitting on a stand.......but I have never done one in the truck. Has anyone else? |

It's easy as long as there is no windage tray in it. Just pull the alt. and drain the oil. Place a telescopic magnet into the oil pan drain hole and position it to the front and drive the remaining piece into the oil pan. Pull it out and your done.

Why Didn't I think of that?
Damn dwc, all the time I was thinking about how to get it out the top...:jackbox:
That just sounds too easy, do you have a more complicated idea? :chainsaw: |

Yes I do.
First remove all loose items from the trucks cab and bed. Imploy a rotory device and mount to both ends of the truck where the bumpers bolt on. Any quality restoration shop will have one. Then spin the truck upside down and rock it vigerously till the tube falls out or the whole engine which ever comes first. Now if the whole engine comes out, just pull the drain plug from the pan, flip it over and drive it out the bottom, and shake the engine till it falls out of the pan drain plug opening. ........ |

You guys are "partners in wrong". Everybody knows that TK's trucks never use a drop of oil, even though they have been beaten and flogged two times to the moon and back.
That being said, just change the oil to get the water out, put a wad of Bondo over the broken tube and then change oil per the regular severe duty-beaten silly-overloaded-neglected schedule and you will be good to go. Dipsticks are for trucks that use oil. TK's 318s are exempt from oil consumption. |

You may be write (sp wrong on purpose) ,Dick ... LOL!!
I'd use J.B. Weld over bondo in this case since Tk's truck is used in heavy severe duty applications. |

No, the Dually burns a quart every 200 miles or so...........
Runs like a watch, and smokes like a train. The new V10 don't seem to burn a drop though......... |

If it is broken at the block, itll still have the raised expanded part of the tube intact and thatll be hell trying to pound into the pan. I would suggest that you pull it out from the top with a slide hammer attached to a bolt that is tapped/threaded into the remaining part of the tube. I had to tap my tube into the block with a tack hammer to get the tab to line up with the bolt hole so its not loose in there. Maybe go up throught the pan.

Yeah what the hell is wrong with you TK? Personally, if it was my truck and they broke the damn dipstick tube, Id make them replace it.
I do kinda like Dick's bondo idea, kinda reminds me of this one time i used bondo on the side rails of a flatbed Ford because the owner didnt want me to just weld a patch in the steel plate.....ummmm, nevermind, i didnt do that, honest. |

You know, I worked Slickline for Halliburton for a short while, I wish they made the kinds of pick up tools like that in the automotive world. I need a 3/8" GR...........
They put the alternmator on, because the other one was MASHED and it was one from MOPAR, btw. |
