Exclamation HELP! Back from the grave

Hello kind folks of moparchat I hope you can give me some insight to my problems here.

'01 pt cruiser limited edition - sat for a about a year in the driveway only being started maybe twice. When I parked it this thing ran like a champ and was my daily driver. I'm back in town and fired her back up only to find out the check engine light comes on now.

The radiator fan doesn't turn on any more so any period of idling will overheat the car.

Speedometer stopped working

Starts and stops in 2nd gear - YES! It's stuck in second gear!

Oh man this isn't looking good. It just sat for about a year what could've happened??? Thanks for any help!

Most likely fan relay is stuck in the off position. You need to check your codes. THe fan/ a/c relay will set a code. Your tranny will set a code too. Stuck in second gear is done by the PC as a limp home mode. Most likely your speedo sensor is not working so your speedo does not read and the tranny can't tell how fast it is going and went into limp in mode.

your output speed sensor on the trans has gone bad, #4800879 . if they're selling it for more than 20.95 then they,re sticking it to ya.

It's 23.85 for the speedo output sensor and 11.02 for the relay. Looks like I have a project lined up for this weekend. I'll let you know how it turns out. If I do wind up limping it in can I take it to one of our larger well respected fix everything garages around here or is this car handled best in the dealer's hands?

it's not bad, patience and time will help though.if the engine warning lite doesn't go out they might need to clear some codes but other than that it's easy to replace as long as you don't have gorilla hands.

I think them 'gators snuck up and were nibbling on your wire harness. Tie two poison chicken carcass to bumpers the next time it sets for a spell.

Heres an oddball thing that happened to me once.I drove this 95 chev.truck,4.3 auto.overdrive at work. One day i got in it and it drove normal, the next time i drove it i noticed the trans. indicater light was out, trans started in 2nd gear and shifted really hard into 3rd,you could manually shift into 1st. but it slipped going into 2nd. and the speedo didnt work.It did this intermitently all day.I dropped it off at the trans.shop to see if any codes were registered. No codes,no wiring problems.Guess what it was? I knew the tech and i thought he was kidding me,it was the ignition switch, but every thing else on the truck worked. Gotta love these newer vehicles.
