Default 383 intake

I have a 1964 Newport which was ordered from the factory with a 383. The car is kinda a family heirloom, and after letting it sit for a long time I'm finally getting around to trying to get some work done on it. The two barrel Stromberg it came with is kinda a basket case (unless anyone can tell me where to get a new accelerator pump for it?). However, I picked up a 383 intake off a later model car (not sure exactly what).
Numbers on the intake are as follows
Top side:
3830733-2
05110
Bottom side:
733-2
I'm wander what this came off of, wether it'll swap on ok, and if so what carb would have been stock on it. I don't have the money to get a new carb, but if I can pick up something stock for it or close to at a swap meet/ebay/criagslist and rebuild, I'd like to get this beast back on the road (and a little more power to boot!).
Any thoughts?
Thanks.

A 3830733 casting number is for A 440. Not sure about the number 2 afterwards. Is the manifold a 2 bbl one or 4? If it is 2bbl it will fit any B Mopar engine (350, 361, 383, 400) if it is a 4bbl it is probably for a 440 and will not work. RB Mopar engines (413,426,440) only ever got a 4 bbl.

Default Really now...

Well the intake is a 4bbl spread bore. I thought the later 383s got the 4bbl treatment? (road runner?) Most of my already somewhat limited knowledge is on small blocks though.
The last 3 might have a been an eight if that makes any difference... its chiped away there, but it looks more like a 3 than an 8 to me.

383's and 400's were both available with optional 4-barrels from late 60's on - all spreadbore TQ's I think

Did a little more checking and your manifold is for a 1974-1976 440. Will not fit a 383. The casting number 3837033 has nothing to do with the size of the engine. It is just a coincedence. The 383 4 barrell intakes are as follows. 1960-1967 casting number 2205968 1968-1969 2806301 1970-1971 295166.
You can always use an Eddlebrock aftermarket aluminum intake. They are very good intakes. The factory intakes for the 383's I believe were all square bore. The spread bore manifolds started to show up in the 70's. The 383 was discontinued in 1971.

Thanks for the info!
Oh well, only payed $10 and gas to get it. Hoping to see a swap meet come through here soon, in the meantime I guess I'll look for an edelbrock.
Any suggestions on carbs? What size TQ would I be looking for if I went that route?

A 1964 383 engine is a pretty darn good plant. The compression ratio of those early beasts was 10.10.1. With a 2bbl the engine got 305 hp and 410 ft. lbs of torque. There are a ton of possibilities for an engine like that. You can slip a bigger cam in, put on a set of later year heads (factory 906) a big carb, and dual exhaust and your engine will be putting out close to 400hp. Even with just putting on a 4 bbl your hp goes up to 330. Lots of potential for the engine for not a lot of money. Try Ebay for 383 factory manifolds. I picked up a 383 4 bbl manifold for 20 plus shipping. Shipping was another 25 but for me it was worth it. The 383 from back then can take a pretty good sized carb. The factory carbs were Carters (same as todays Eddy's) and I believe they were 600cfm. Not really that big. A good one to use would be a 700 or 750, any more than that is overkill.

If you get a spreadbore carb, the T-Q is more than likely going to be the larger 850 unit. Do not let the cfm scare you, for the small primarys keep the carb do-able on the engine.
As DW would say, go to Advancd for a rebuilt one.

Most 383's came with a small carter. Swapping the larger 440 was a popular thing. Respectivly 600 (or so) and 750 cfms. The Edelbrock rods and jets , step up springs etc.... on carb parts will swap and work on the older carbs. Sometimes gaskets do not depending on age of carb. Minor trimming may be needed. Or new hole added.
