Sorry to hear that. I'd take hte insurance money and buy you a nice driver. Most likley the car has been chopped and sold by now and wont be recovered. I know that's not what you want to hear, but it's usually the truth. Wish you luck.

yea i am. Because the gate was tore down and the only car was taken was my car, i dont know how much im gonna get for it but i got all my recipts from everthing which adds up to a couple grand and the low on the car on nadaguides.com is 3,100. The whole drivetrain was brand new. But i might try to get my hands on a duster, i want something i dont have to smog.

Unless the law changed just this year, anything 30 years old or more is exempt in CA. So every year the exemption moves up by a year. Your '76 is (was) exempt as well.

Looks like they stole it,took it for a joy ride and stole your tunes. That just sucks. At least you got it back. Did they steal anything off the engine? I doubt it since the wheels are still on it. YOu got lucky to get it back. Might be hard to find some of it, but you can always rebuild and the insuirance will have to give you something. You might even save the driveline and put it in a better body if you luck up on something. Hang in there.

Yea they even took the wiring out but i dont think he got very far with it after that because the wiring for the fuel pump was ran with the audio wiring so after he yanked all that out it was all over as far as the joy ride. i'm pretty sure the insurance company from the shop is gonna total it out and give me something for it, it's a one owner car, i have alot in recipts from work done come to about 2,900 and the motor and trans was around 2,000 for everything plus the price of the car. After they total it out im gonna buy it back and pull out and off everything: engine which from the wheel well seems to be complete cause i felt the air cleaner still there, trans, rearend, tires, k memeber,exhaust(1 month old), everything i just listed is brand new and worth alot and in the mean-time try to find me a decent duster or some type of A body in need of a drive train.

Aww, C'mon...
Look at it this way.
All the stuff (from what I can see) that got damaged is [I]bolt on[I] stuff. Fenders, decklid, bumper, etc. I'd save the car myself. It seems you took alot of pride in it, so why give up on it now? The "big guy" gave it back to you... doesn't that mean something? My brothers (now mine) Dodge truck got rolled quite a few years ago, the day before Thanksgiving. He'd loaned it to a friend whose truck died, so he'd have a ride. The guy rolled it on the way to a car wash! When he got it outta impound, it looked pretty bad. But he'd just redone it, and it was his pride and joy. I looked at it, and said "it's all bolt on stuff that's ruined, the frame and drivetrain are ok..." He moped for an hour or so then said "you're right" and went in and started calling junkyards. It's actually better NOW than it was before (we got a sweet deal on a southern bed, really solid). Late B's haven't really caught on yet, so that car is gonna be kinda "special" for awhile. I mean, do you really want another belly button Duster. (I've got a 74, along with my 79 300 and a bunch of other Mopars, hee hee hee). Long story short, find the pieces and save it is my vote. Jay PS, I love the wheels on your car. I wondered how it'd look. |

Hi All
Being in California the law changed to not allow 1976 or later as most of those cars have a catalyic converter (maybe not all but most GM and Fhords did). The state could not overide Federal Law by having a rolling 30 year exemption, which would allow 1976 exempt of cat's and no further testing. This was done in Jan 2005 tied to a carpool bill...
