Smile Chromemoly or Steel?

I’m having trouble deciding which pushrod material to use for my street 408… What’s your opinion? My 408 should be turning out about 400hp. :toa

What type of valve train are you running? Roller rockers or steel type rockers. CM is lighter and stronger, steel is cheaper and a little heavier. If cost difference about dollar per PR, I would use CM over steel. If twice the money for CM, cam and valvetrain won't see much over 6000 steel probably okay

I have heard that when you bend a rod or two, you break alot of other stuff also. Because my dart sees some strip time I chose to go CM when I rebuilt my top end. To me, it was cheap insurance and one less thing I have to worry about.

It depends on spring pressure, cam profile and cylinder pressures. If you are using a flat tappet, with spring pressures no more than 375-400 lbs. and a street profile---then plain steel pushrods are fine.

I don't know what the spring pressure is with my LA Edelbrock heads, the replacment part is #5767 for springs and it looks like they are 105 or 120lbs seat pressure, I assume that's a different measurement that what your talking about.

btw specs:
Cam: Racer Brown .480 lift 232 @ 050 dur (fast ramp speeds)
Compression should be around 10.3 static.
Rockers: steel roller tip, adjustable. (Comp Pro-Mag)
