hi guys ive got my 318 powered hillman avenger {plymouth cricket} mot'd and onthe road but with some teething problems my major one is that im riding round in a fireball waiting to happen the stock two barrel carb leaks fuel all over the engine when i accelerate hard out of the top of the accelerator pump rod hole so ive decided to upgrade to a four barrel carb on a edelbrock performer manifold i have a choice of two carbs the first is a second hand holley 600 vac secondary the other carb is where all your mopar/v8 knowledge comes in its a new carb given to me by a friend its a carter afb competition series but of what cfm/size i dont knowit has lots of numbers on it these are 9755 s 2905 on the front of the carb
7 1012517-2 8867 on the underside
and on the throttle butterfly/flaps ther is 2.291 onthe front flaps
2.281 onthe rear flaps
i would preffer to use this one if i could with it being new also the vehicle is a four speed with a stock engine so which carb should i be using please help identify the carter and any advice is greatly recieved cheers

9755 is the number we need. It is the catolog listed as a Universal carb with GM linkage. So an adapter is needed. There cheap. It makes the throttle cable easy to hook up.
It goes on to say;
Manual choke, non-emissions calibration, dual floats no power valve, no sticky gaskets spring loaded needle and seat assemblies, square mounting flange - bolt on HP
MoPar linkage adapter 3-2087, get it from Edelbrock, this is out of the federal mougal catolog and I do not know if they still have parts for these carbs since they no longer make them. They also have an electric choke kit, 170P-1314
The Holley is more properly CFM sized to the engine.

That's a tough call.

The carter will be a little big, but with a 4 gear you may be alright.

The holley is better sized for sure (as Rumble fish pointed out) but a used holley can turn into a nightmare quickly. They are easy to tune, but sticking float, leaky needles and seats, failed power valves, etc.

I guess I'd try the free new afb first. Free and new being the deciding factors.
