The 8 1/4 is not a lesser unit. IT's a direct replacement for the 3/4 and in some areas it's actually better. The 1/4 does not have the housing flex issue that causes failures on the 3/4.

You can find the 1/4 under any '73 up A body and F,M, and J bodies. I have a '76 with a factory 360 4 spd with an 8 1/4 axle. Holds well against bone jaring clutch drops.

Not directly or without a small mod, but you should have no problem in finding a 8-1/4 for your car. It was a plentyfuly item.

Yes it will. The only major diffrence and it's an easy fix. THe F,M,and J axle uses a larger hole on the axle pad. You can put new pads on it, or weld a washer in the hole to make it smaller. It's not a major deal to fix.

are you sure? the F,M,J is closer to a B body than a A body only a 1/2 inch difrence .seems to me it wouldn't leave much room in the wells plus the bolt patern is different 4 1/2 " not 4" and 15" wheels on m and j body.but thats not a problem.but if it works make sure its a sure grip and not a one legger.
