Default cam thrust button

Going to change cams in my 413, however it only comes in the 3 bolt cam gear configuration. I know they say to use a cam button with a roller cam, but this is a flat lifter cam. Can i assume (i know, dont assume any thing) the oil pump drive will give it sufficient stability without the button..Thanks

They make cam buttons for the 3-bolt cams. The button helps stabilize ignition timing and help prevent bad harmonics.

Slingshot, would you say a cam button for the big blocks is a good thing to run no matter what?

Cam button is only needed with a roller cam. With a flat tappet, the tapered cam lobes pull the cam rearwards and keeps it near the block. With roller lifters and untapered lobes, the cam tends to wander a little more fore & aft.

Yes, I's say a cam button helps no matter what. Ed Hamburger even used to sell a collar that slid on your distributor shaft to prevent the oil pump drive from climbing. A really trick piece for street use or road racing.

At least one shouldn't hurt. I have not used them with flat tappets though, in any engines.
