Speedo Pinion seal
My recently rebuilt 727 trans started leaking from the speedo cable connection at the trans. I removed the speedo pinion housing and found that the seal and clip were missing. I called a chrysler dealer to order the seal, they said that it came in a kit so I ordered the kit. When I received the kit it had 2 seals, a smaller green one and a larger black one , plus 2 clips, 1 clip was c shaped and the other more of a curved A shape. Both the seals were flat on one side and had a groove on the other side. My question is which seal should I use and should I have the flat or grooved side facing out?
The trans is a 1972 727. Any help would be appreciated. |

WEll, looking at my 66 service manual, I show 2 seals, a large O ring type seal that goes over the inside of the adapter (obvious) and the smaller seal that goes into the threaded portion and is retained by the C clip. On both and almost any hydro seal, the grove points in toward the fluid, so the pressure if any forces the lip to expand outward. I dont show the A clip.

Toss the curved "A" shaped clip, the wire "C" clip is used. The seal lip points towards the inside of the trans.
