Calling it a Dodge or a Chrysler just wouldn't work. Cuda is Plymouth and always will be...

I'm sure someone got a big fat bonus and a pat on the back for dropping Plymouth, but it didn't make me and a lot of others very happy. |

DC did not drop Plymouth. Chrysler dropped Plymouth long before the merger. The plans to drop Plymouth started in 1991. The first thing they did was to get rid of any brand specific vehicles from the line up. Then all of the cars were being offered on the Dodge or the Chrysler side of the house. Once sells fell off far enough, Chrysler dropped the axe. The only brand specific car they had at that time was the stink bug looking Prowler. It didn't have the greatest sells numbers; however, they were high enough to justify moving the name to the Chrysler badge.

Didn't the Neon start out as Plymouth? Or was it made for both lines from the beginning? |

Absolutley NOT, no way, no how.
Yes, by dropping the Plymouth brand we lost a lot of cool Mopar names. But, we still have a lot of cool Dodge names still not being used. The "new" Charger should have been called a Coronet, and a performance model could have been a Coronet 500, etc. We still have Demon, Super Bee, Dart, etc... The 'Cuda name died long ago, personally, I'd like to see them keep it that way seeing as Plymouth is no longer. You think a lot of people were pissed off when they named that "thing" a Charger? Thats is miniscule compared to what would happen if they started using Plymouth names on Dodges. |

Honestly though, I expect any old Plymouth nameplates that end up being revived would end up being called Chryslers just like they did in Europe with Saratoga and others, or like how they switched brandnames on the Prowler. |

It seems that if Chrysler can make the decision to drop the Plymouth name, they (DC) should be able to resurrect it just as easily. They've dropped and resurrected many of the "model" names (such as the Charger) more than once over the past 40 yrs, so why couldn't they do the same with a "make" name? If they decide to build a 'Cuda, (which would [obviously] be resurrecting a model name) it would be a logical move to also resurrect the Plymouth "make" even if the 'Cuda is the only Plymouth model for the time being. This move would also open the door for future Plymouth models to be brought back to life. Roadrunner? GTX? Just my opinion....

maybe they should just build a up to date Dart, it can be SRT or GTS, but something 6 or 8 inches shorter in wheelbase then the Challenger, and about 400 - 600 pounds lighter, yet run with the Mustangs and the Camaro that Gm will make on the road course, and less money. Yeah, those Challengers look neat, but not for my money! The Demon I like, but alot of people don't have that sense of humor, same as when the car became Dart Sport in 73 or so. And Dodge is way behind on the warrantys that are comming out, unless they are selling them now with over a 36,000 mile one, it's unreal what they get for warranty. One last thing, hope the gas gauge is better than the one in my SRT-4 that drops so quick!

I agree with Ed, Plymouth Cuda was and always will be it's name, however, times change and we move on. I feel "'Cuda by Chrysler" has a pretty good name to it. If it means seeing the car in the first post of this thread? What ever the name build it and re-start or start another legacy all of it's own.
Though, I highly doubt DC will build anything until the Challenger has proven it's worth. My 0.02c |

What can I say that has not already been said. As a Plmouth owner and driver it would be tough to take "Cuda by Chrysler or DC".
Though they still have to build more than a prototype, look at the production car and the prototype of the Charger. Lets hope that the people making the Challenge stick to the car they have been showing the public. |
