Default 8 1/4 rear end.. ordering.. gift advice please help

Hey guys i just have a quick question, My dad has a 74 duster with a 8 1/4 rear end in it, he blew the stock one and put the 8 1/4 in. The only problem is its an open diff. Im looking into buying a posi unit for him for it, ive found a trac-lok from a 91-01 Jeep, with 29 splines.. will this fit in his rear end? The only problem is i dont know how many spline his axles are? I look for a detroit locker for him and found nothing made for the size rear end. Any ideas guys.. His birthday is this sunday so i would like to try and get it by then.

Thank you.
Mike

This is a better way to go about it if your wallet can handle it. Sunday is very soon. Good gift idea!!!

The Trak Loc from the Jeep wont work. Too many splines. Go to Randy's and get a Sure Grip. Lokers don't work real well on the street either .Quite noisy. www.ringpinion.com

Clutch-type ltd.slips (Eaton Posi types) are rebuildable. Auburns aren't. That said, some folks claim you can pretty well replace a worn-out Auburn for about the same cost of rebuilding a clutch-type, Auburn being one of those folks. And for mild street use, the Auburn seems to be quite reliable, as it has for me in my 360 Mirada for 5 years now. The new H.D. unit in the Mancini catalog might indeed be the answer. As for the spline count, I think all pre-90 8 1/4 s are the same, 27 spline?
