ONE MORE 426 426 Wedge Question
HI! Remember me.... Another double posting, for which I apologize. I may have found a block for my `65 Coronet 426 wedge car (the car has a ship date of 4/6/65 so I'm guessing the build date was 1-2 weeks earlier, say late March).
The casting number on the block is 2432230-2 with a 9-18-64 casting date, so timing is a good match for car's build date. Trying to further date the engine as possible correct for my car, I asked the seller what was stamped on the distributor pad. His reply was "CI 426 HP" and nothing else. I would have expected something like "A 42 HP" or A 46 HP" and possible an assembly date. Asking around about this somewhat unusual stamping, I've heard everything from "I've seen that on other blocks" to "impossible, it's a fake". You guys have been so helpful in the past I thought I'd pull on your expertise again. The block is a bit pricey but it comes with the crank rods and pistons, which would be a real benefit. Your thoughts on the stamping. (I know - I should ask the seller if the block has been decked...the machine shop might have restamped the block ID without adding back in the assembly date...) Thanks!!!! Steve |
