Default Starter Grinding on small block with lightweight starter

Tried to get motor running today and the starter was grinding pretty bad. It also got hung up in the flywheel on the first turn over. I was thinking maybe I need a shim but cant find that there are any made for Mopars. I could make something myself but would like to hear some opinions before I go that far. I have a magnum crate 360/a833 with the lightweight starter chrysler # 53005984.

Mopars don't use starter shims. Only chebbys use those. CHeck your flywheel for bad teeth and burs. Also check the starter bendix for the same thing. MAke sure you got it seated in there correctly too. Sometimes that starter needs the black wire post removed and the wires attacjed at the other location on the starter to clear the block and headers and such. Just look at it and you can see what I am talking about.
