six-pack question?
Is it possible to put a 6 pack set up on a 318?
if so, is it a good idea? I have a 1940 plymouth with a 318, and I mostly just like the vintage look of a 6 pack set up. can anyone help with ideas? thanks |

It's a mighty expensive induction system, and you could make more power, more easily, with the right single four-barrel. But the look can't be beat. If you really want to do it you can, the manifold will bolt right on. The two outboard carbs are vacuum operated, so you won't overcarb the engine either. You probably will never get them to open all the way, but that's okay. It will give you the flow you need, and no more.
Tuning them correctly will be a lot of work. And the ports won't match up to the 318 heads perfectly either, so it will work better if you do some port matching. But that is something you should do with any performance build anyway, so it's no big deal. Personally, I would spend my money elsewhere and get more bang for the buck, performance-wise. But as far as bang for the buck, appearance-wise, it is hard to beat a six-pack. |

hey action,
They make a 6pack intake to fit a small block. 318,340, and 360`s all use the same intake. You can put a 6bbl set up on the 318 but it wouldntbe very practical, you would need a healthy cam and alot of head work besides headers for it to run right. youd be better off runnung a dominator single plane intake and a 600 cfm. holley with a mid range cam and actually have a reliable streeet motor. I tried it myself yrs. ago and it just bogged down and ran to rich all the time.i went to the 600 and it woke right up. i`ve had several 6bbl cars and still do. and I just wouldnt recomend that route, happy moparing Doug |

A single plane isn't to great and better off left on the antique table. Use it if you want, just get a cam ito use in the intakes rpm range. Yes a 6pak is doable. |

On a 318 you would really have to rev that thing hard to get it to need that much air and gas, a single 4 bbl will work better for much less $$$$$ and be much easier to maintain, but if you want it just to be cool, I can see what you mean.
