302 castings
how much compresion can i expect to gain by bolting a set of 302s on a 318 in place of the standard open chamber heads. and does anyone know what the chamber volume on the 302 closed chamber heads .

They are 59 cc's. Not sure about the compression though.

318 heads BLUEPRINT anywhere from 57 to 63 cc's (casting numbers differ) per Taylor/Hofer. The 302's are 62.6 in their book. The 360 heads are not much bigger at 65-66 cc's but their piston is dished to make the combustion volume much larger.

LOL, My J heads are 72 cc.
You'll need to measure up (cc) the head on the car vs. the 302 chamber. Use an on line calc to figure it out. Just be aware that the head gasket plays a big part It should ask you for the gaskets bore size and thickness. |

my stock 302 s are 63 cc, with standaed valves, get stainless valves, it would be 61 or 60 cc from '85 318

Once again, I am getting screwed, or something, my 302's, are 64-66cc. Seems like we have some big heads up here, or something...................The 302 heads didn't really have any smaller of a chamber than the open chamber heads, because the compression ratio stayed the same in a 318 from 69, and 318's had flat tops.

Seems the stock 69 318 heads were 68 cc, biggest problem with 318 is the pistons are so far in the hole, then in the days before Keith Black made 318 pistons, my machine shop tried to sell me some 1.720 compression height pistons, about .101 in the hole, yuck, more yuck when you run that at 6000 feet altitude (Co. Springs) Actually, the factory over rated the compression, they did that on other engines, like you have to mill a -915 head on a 340 to get 10.25 to 1 the later ratings are probably closer to the truth

Its all Dodge, what vehicle did you 302's come off of? I think they still sell them at advance but you have to know what vehicle ect.

either way, like a crappy vortec head compared to a camel hump head, still flows better in stock form...anyways, just use the 302 heads...they will flow good for a 318
