FJ Cruiser??
Whats w/ Toyota? Can't these guys come up with an original name? I'ts bad enough Toyota rips off their styling from other companies But FJ Cruiser? I know Chrysler isn't the first company to use the name cruiser (remember Vista cruiser?) But at least they waited until Olds was through with it. What does FJ stand for anyway? Fat Jap Cruiser? These guys have no imagination!
If it isn't bad enough the Jap car companies are trying to grab market share in every segment, they could at least come up w/ there own names for their cars. |

The early Jeep-like Toyotas were Land Cruisers. Extremely rugged. The model of that venerable ride was FJ40. Toyota did no wrong naming their new truck FJ Cruiser. The Land Cruiser was first built in 1954 and the FJ series began in 1967. Toyota had the "Cruiser" way before GM or DC.
I owned a 1979 FJ40 Land Cruiser and it was a beast. Hard riding, cold as hell in the winter, hot as hell in the summer, but there was little that rig couldn't do with the full time 4WD. I bought it new and kept it for 4 years. FJ 40 Land Cruisers from the '60s and '70s can command as much at sale time as most Mopar musclecars. The FJ40 Land Cruiser was produced through 1983. Here is an interesting link about the history of the Land Cruiser. http://4xforum.co.za/vguide/cruiser_hist.html |

I had a '71 FJ40 Land Cruiser, one of the neatest vehicles I have owned. Wish I still had it.
