Timing Chain Tensioner
I picked up a timing chain tensioner (P5007709) and now I can't get the timing chain on. There is so much tension that I can't move the cam sprocket enough to get it on. I didn't pull the pin. With the tensioner on I don't have enough slack to get the timing chain on. Obvisouly doing what it supposed to do. The timing chain in brand new.
The tensioner part is on the left side that is being held by the pin is where I cannot get enough slack to get the sprocket far enough to put on the cam. Anyone have any ideas? |

If I remember right, I left my tensioner loose, and bolted it down after the chain was on, through the holes in the cam sprocket. It was definitly a pain.

I just pried on the tensioner, I have this on two motors, definately a pain, but worth the Gain in my opinion.

The pin is rather flimsy, try replacing it with drill bit just small enough to fit in the hole. This just might give you enough slack to get the chain on. It worked for me.

Never seen one, but I have installed a hydraulic tensioner though. does it use a spring or a hydraulic thingy? The hydraulic one has to be preloaded ( I used a bench vise) and retained by a drill bit as was suggested, then you put it on and pull the pin, itll slowly expand and take up the slack. The spring one just gets cranked back with a 1/2 breaker bar. Id try and tighten it down after you get the chain on. Good luck.
