Default 340 stampings

are the stampings on the block and oil pan rail supposed to be the same.this is the same engine i needed advise about it not wanting to rev up. at the time it was my uncles and i didnt have my dial back timing light.ive since bought the car and timed it and found out the dist. is from a boat.it runs a lot better now with correct distributor

The pan rail stamping is the VIN, other stampings on the block are the engine serial number; the two won't match.
