What would the 1/4 mile be?
I have a non Mopar question. My son acquired a 1987 GMC long bed pickup from his Grandfather several years ago(came from your city, tarrbabe). It is pristine, original owner, etc. Well, my son wanted a better engine, built a 350 w/ vortex heads, 2x4 intake(he's old school), headers, etc. Made a nice street runner. He wanted more!
He got serious this time with the truck. Back halfed the frame, installed a NASCAR full float 9" rear, trailing arms, coil overs on back, Wildwood disc brakes front/rear, etc. For the engine, it is a 355" GM w/BDS 671---built all the way(for the street?). It dynos at 700HP. Even has a methanol injector plate to reduce detonation. But it does get 15 MPG on highway driving sainly. Now, here is my question. The truck weighs 4450 ready to run. Down at the Huntsville Dragway, the truck has run 7.018 @ 101.23 MPH in street rim, through muffler w/ slicks. What would an approximate 1/4 mile time be? My old "rule of thumb" would put the truck close to 10.50s---but that is a 40 year old "rule of thumb". Any opinions????????? Wild guesses???????? The truck will never see the 1/4, not without a full cage, serious rear spoiler, etc. |

I fI look at my ET cards, a factor of 1.563 gives usually pretty accurate results. But that can vary a little from car to car. What kind of 60 ft times diod it run? That factor would give just a tad below 11 sec ET's, the 1/8 mile speed speaks for that kind of performance too, maybe a little better. But that car is aerodynamically pretty challenged, and when the speed goes up towards the end of the 1/4, it will loose a little there. Anyway, not bad at all for that weight and power, the chassis and drivetrain must work pretty well!

I would have to say that it should fall right between what you two are saying. My dad's 3000 lb. car runs 6.12 in the 1/8 and 9.70's in the quarter. So given weight diff. I would say that you are pretty close in your guess. But there is only one way to know for sure. Hit it and git it.

7.018 @ 101.23 = 11.05@125.53 all things being equal. when you start pushing against the wind resistence at the top end the mph may fall off some.

Sounds like a pretty hot truck for a GM, any pics of it by any chance? I am a Mopar guy, but I like just about anything that is built like that. Cool is cool no matter what name plate is on it (excluding ricers IMO)

Yeah, 11.00's is about right for that 1/8th. That eighth is almost exacty what my car runs, and it goes 11.03-11.05 in the quarter. Hey Swinger, that avatar is it!! hahahhaa!

Guys, thanks for your responses. Sorry for the late reply---but my computer went on the fritz---had to borrow my son's laptop.
The truck will probably never see the 1/4 mile. One--it gets light in the rear in the 1/8 and would need some extra stuff for the 1/4. Two---he has enough to do with his "dirt car" on the weekends. But, I was just wondering. I must admit, it is stout for a street driven truck. |

In IHRA and NHRA it is 6.95 for the 1/8 mile for 10.90 hot rod or super street. |
